May 25, 2021 - Day Six, Flight One, Part Two
Monument Valley

Flying over some interesting terrain.

A low-level flyer's paradise.

I was heading for the San Juan River.

The scenery was fabulous along the way.

I decided to fly between those two rather large rocks ....

and then Monument Valley appears before me!

This is the third time I have flown Monument Valley; I can remember a time when I didn't even know where it was.

Passing by the "Totem Pole" rock spire; you know, the one that Clint Eastwood and George Kennedy climbed in the movie "The Eiger Sanction".

Flying by the Three Sisters.

What can you say?  There's just something awesome about Monument Valley.

At left, Goulding's Lodge with Goulding's Monument Valley Airport at right.  The breakfast at Goulding's Lodge restaurant is the best ever, and I was sorely tempted to land and have breakfast.  But the hours between seven and ten AM are prime flying hours so I didn't want to waste time eating.

A closer look at the airport ramp and Goulding's Lodge at the base of the cliff.

Looking back east at Monument Valley.
